TOaron rodgers,the Green Bay Packers quarterback mentioned by actress Jodie Foster in her Golden Globe appreciation speech, just donated a million dollars to help small businesses struggling to survive the pandemic.
Eighty restaurants and retail businesses in Butte County, California – including Chico (Aaron’s hometown) – they will receive funds to help cover rent and other operating expenses. The goal is to float business for the next three months – and maybe even longer – as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to rage.
“Small, locally owned businesses are the heart and soul of a community,” Rodgers said in a statement released Monday. “In applications and videos it was heartbreaking to hear all the obstacles that restaurants and commercial establishments face. Many of them are struggling just to stay in business, but they are still hopeful that there will be an end to this, “he added.
Rogers, who had initially pledged half a million, doubled his donation in partnership with the North Valley Community Foundation. “Aaron is an amazing person,” said NVCF President and CEO Alexa Benson-Valavanis.
It is not the first time that it shows its solidarity. Rodgers also donated $ 1 million in 2018 to help those affected by wildfires in Californiaand that 79 lives were claimed, destroyed more than 10,000 houses and an area of more than 600,000 square kilometers.
