National basketball player Alperen Şengün was selected in the 16th place by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the American Basketball League (NBA) 2021 draft, while the Houston Rockets took the rights of the player.
This year’s NBA drafts were held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Alperen Şengün, who attracted attention with his performance in Beşiktaş Icrypex last season, was drafted in the first round. Houston Rockets, who received the Oklahoma City Thunder’s draft pick, preferred Alperen Şengün with the 16th pick.
The young basketball player showed the Turkish flag inside his jacket after being selected. Making a statement after the draft, 19-year-old Alperen stated that he was waiting for the NBA games to start as soon as possible and that he wanted to go to the field with legendary players.

The Detroit Pistons, who have the right to choose a first player in the draft, preferred 19-year-old point guard Cade Cunningham, who plays for the Oklahoma State Cowboys in the American Intercollegiate Basketball League. Cunningham, who is 2.03 meters tall, finished his college career averaging 20.1 points and 6.2 rebounds.
Second choice Houston Rockets chose 19-year-old US shooter Jalen Green. The third pick was the 20-year-old US center Evan Mobley, preferred by the Cleveland Cavaliers.
