CSKA Moscow’s President, Andrey Vatutin, made a statement about the decision of head coach Dimitris Itoudis to exclude team star Mike James from the squad.

James, who was taken from the game after three minutes in the match against UNICS Kazan in the VTB League, did not play at all in the second half. Coach Itoudis answered a question about James after the game, but did not give any details and did not mention the name of his player; he talked about his own character.

Speaking to Metaratings.ru, Vatutin said:

“Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem possible to find a common point with Mike James for now. Mike’s first season at CSKA didn’t give us any difficulties, so we signed a new three-year contract. This season the club has done everything possible to make the collaboration successful and achieve results. The problems that arise cannot be solved. We decided to take things our own, but failed to build stability in the team.

Itoudis is an experienced, knowledgeable coach with his own perspective on team building. He also takes responsibility for the results. According to the technical team, the decision to exclude Mike was made in the team’s interest and we believe everything will be fine.

At the same time, there is no need to demonize Mike. He is a great basketball player and a player who has taken the games many times and fascinated the audience. But the situation turned into an unsolvable separation. Unfortunately it is not possible to resolve this. It is very sad, of course, but it would be better to accept this and not expect a miracle. ” (Eurohoops)
