On the 11th day of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, Australia beat world runner-up Argentina 97-59 in men’s basketball to advance to the semi-finals.
Despite Argentina’s 22-18 lead in the first period of the match played at Saitama Super Arena, Australia went ahead 39-33 in the locker room.
Leading 60-48 in the third quarter, Australia opened the gap even more in the last quarter and left the field with a 97-59 victory with 38 points.
Playing in the semi-finals in 2016 Rio, Australia once again made it to the last 4 and became the opponent of the USA. Having reached the semi-finals for the 5th time in its history, Australia lost the chance to reach the finals 4 times before and always ranked fourth in the Olympics. In the other semi-finals, Slovenia and France will share their trump cards.
The top scorer of the match was Australian NBA star Patty Mills. Mills finished the game with 18 points.
In Argentina, Nicolas Laprovittola’s 16 points and Gabriel Deck’s 12 points could not prevent another defeat.
