England’s Liam Livingstone was forced to retire with a finger injury during the T20 World Cup preparation match against India in Dubai.

England will assess Liam Livingstone’s finger injury for the next 24 hours as they wait to see if the off-roader will be fit for the start of the T20 World Cup.

Livingstone was forced to leave the field in the final stages of England’s warm-up loss to India in Dubai, with the little finger on his left hand swollen after he tried to catch it on the edge.

England’s medical team will wait for the swelling to subside before releasing more news about Livingstone’s injury, but it is a potential concern as the team prepares to launch its trophy bid in just five days.

The 28-year-old performed well against India, hitting 30 on 20 deliveries and returning 1-10 on his two overs on the ball, including rival captain Virat Kohli’s wicket.

Livingstone has become a key member of the team in recent months, earning a retirement after four years and quickly crushing a century of 42 balls, the fastest by an England player in T20I cricket, against Pakistan.

It has been pointed out to him that he will play an important role in the tournament, particularly as England enter without their top all-rounder Ben Stokes, who is taking an indefinite break from the game to prioritize his mental health and recover from injury.

Moeen Ali from England said of Livingstone: “I think it’s okay, I don’t know much about it, but it seemed okay. I think it’s just bruises. Obviously it was a little scare at the time, but he said it was okay.” ok so hope it’s good.

“He is a brilliant player, he has been playing very well in the last two years, so I hope he can take that form to the World Cup. I feel like it will be a great stage for him.”

England are scheduled for one more warm-up match, against New Zealand on Wednesday, before taking on the defending champions of the West Indies in their opening match of the tournament on Saturday, live on Sky Sports Cricket.
