England captain Eoin Morgan has been ruled out of the final two matches of the Twenty20 series against the West Indies due to a “minor quadriceps injury”, the England and Wales Cricket Board has confirmed.

Morgan missed the third T20I meeting in Barbados on Wednesday night after experiencing “right quadriceps soreness during warm-up”, with Moeen Ali as captain.

“Follow-up tests revealed that he suffered a muscle injury to his right thigh which, although relatively minor, will prevent him from playing any further matches during the current tour,” the ECB statement continued.

The hosts have a 2-1 lead in the last two games, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, having won the third meeting by 20 runs after a Rovman Powell century.

“We were done a little bit with Morgs going down and playing with three rookies, but they played really well,” Ali said after game three. “A fantastic partnership took the game away from us, but I’m proud of the way guys hit. We’ve got guys raising their hands: Bants (Tom Banton) was outstanding, which is great for his confidence going forward.”

Morgan had hit shots of 17 and 13 in the first two games, the latter of which England clinched by a run to level the series at 1-1.
