Our National Men’s Basketball Team defeated Czechia 87-70 in the second match of the FIBA Olympic Qualifications and qualified for the semi-finals.
Our Turkish National Basketball Team, playing its second match in the FIBA Olympic Qualifications, faced the Czech Republic. With 10 points from Furkan Korkmaz in the first quarter of the match, the Nationals dominated their opponent by 17-14.
While 12 Giant Men increased the gap to 6 points in the second quarter, Czech Republic managed to take the lead with the points they found on the timeout. Alperen Şengün’s good performance in both rims enabled the crescents and stars to close the half with a 45-38 lead.
In the third quarter, the gap was in double digits for the first time. Keeping turnovers at a low level against its opponent, Turkey entered the last ten minutes with a 63-54 superiority.
In the last quarter of the fight, the National Team made its opponent accept its superiority. With the points of Melih Mahmutoğlu and Ersan İlyasova, the National team won the match 87-70. After this result, Turkey, which made 2 out of 2, finished Group B as the leader and advanced to the semi-finals.
The 12 Giant Men will face the second of Group A on Saturday. Greece, Canada and China compete in the other group of qualifiers. While Canada won both games in the group, it is expected that the Nationals’ opponent will be Greece.
Furkan Korkmaz scored 20 points, Melih Mahmutoğlu 13 and Ersan İlyasova 12 points in the Nationals. For the Czech Republic, Tomas Satoransky had 15 points and Jan Vesely had 13 points.
