In the American Basketball League (NBA), the New Orleans Pelicans and Washington Wizards fired their head coaches.
According to the NBA’s statement, the Pelicans parted ways with Stan Van Gundy and the Wizards’ Scott Brooks.
Brooks led the Wizards, whom he had coached since 2016, to the playoffs for the third time this season. The Wizards, who had 34 wins and 38 losses in the regular season, were eliminated by the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round of the playoffs.
Van Gundy took over the Pelicans at the start of the season. The Pelicans were out of the playoffs, finishing the season with 31 wins and 41 losses.
Previously, the Boston Celtics, Portland Trail Blazers, Indiana Pacers and Orlando Magic also fired their head coaches.
