The sports director had to reveal his plans before March 31, but the team’s situation has caused the deadline to be extended
FRan Garagarza and his team last summer extended their commitment to Eibar for one season, but in the same agreement, the armory entity established that the next renewal would have to be carried out before April 2021. The reason for that clause was very simple. Eibar did not want their sporting director to leave the club in July, a key month for planning the following season, and Advancing the decision to April allowed Amaia Gorostiza to have three months to find a replacement for him.
April is here and there is no decision made. Garagarza has a contract until June 30, but the condition of deciding his continuity before the end of March has not been met. Both the Gipuzkoan club and the sports director have the decision postponed until the end of the season. It is an exceptional year and the only important thing, today, is to get the team out of relegation and achieve permanence. There will be time to reach an agreement, if it is reached, but Eibar has parked all the issues related to the next campaign.
Inside the gunsmith club nobody can assure that Mendilibar will be the coach next season nor that Garagarza will continue to lead the Sports Directorate. A descent to Second could cause a change of cycle within the gunsmith club, hence the most important decisions related to the sporting aspect are subject to what Eibar does in the remaining ten days of the League.
Regardless of the continuity of Eibar in the highest category, the summer is hectic in the offices of Ipurua. Only 11 of the 23 players that Mendilibar has in its squad have a contract for next season. There are six loaned players who will return to their teams when this course ends (Soares, Kevin, Pozo, Recio, Bryan Gil and Muto) and six other players who end their contract (Dmitrovic, Oliveira, Arbilla, Aleix García, Diop and Pedro León).
