England have been drawn alongside hosts Australia and New Zealand, at the Super 12 stage of the 2022 Men’s T20 World Cup.
The rescheduled tournament, which has been pushed back a year due to the coronavirus pandemic, begins on October 16, with the final scheduled for November 13 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Group 1 of the Super 12 will see England, Australia, New Zealand and Afghanistan joined by two qualifiers, which could include Sri Lanka, the West Indies and Scotland.
Group 2 sees India tied alongside Pakistan, along with South Africa, Bangladesh and two other qualifiers.
The first preliminary round of the competition begins with Sri Lanka taking on Namibia on October 16, while Australia take on New Zealand, in a repeat of last year’s final, on October 22 in the first Super 12 match.
England will start their campaign later on October 22 against Afghanistan in Perth. They will then meet in a qualifier on October 26 at the MCG, before taking on Australia at the same venue two days later. A rematch of their 2021 semi-final loss to New Zealand follows on November 1 in Brisbane, before completing the group stage in Sydney on November 5 against another qualifier.
In the undoubted highlight of Group 2 matches, India takes on Pakistan on October 23 at the MCG.
The tournament will kick off less than a year after Australia’s November 2021 triumph in the United Arab Emirates.
Australia was originally scheduled to host the T20 World Cup in 2020, while India was given another edition of the tournament in 2021, due to the fact that it had originally been scheduled to host the now-defunct ICC Champions Trophy in the same year.
