Ben Stokes’ return to action has been delayed after the opening day of England’s warm-up game against the England Lions in Brisbane was interrupted due to rain.
Stokes has been inducted into England’s Ashes team after taking an indefinite break from all of cricket in July to prioritize his mental well-being and rest a broken finger.
England starters Haseeb Hameed (53 not out) and Rory Burns (39 not out) had led England to 98 without losing before play was stopped early in the second session at Wellington Point.
Durham Stokes’ all-rounder, set to hit No. 5, made his last appearance for England in a one-day international game against Pakistan in July.
Members of the England Ashes team that participated in the T20 World Cup have not been included in the warm-up match and will remain in quarantine for one more week.
The first ash test at Gabba begins on December 8 and the fifth and final test is scheduled for Perth’s Optus Stadium on January 14.
