Competing in the FIBA 2023 Women’s European Championship Qualifiers, the Women’s National Team entered the camp in Bolu to continue their preparations. The national basketball players, who will have their first training in the evening at a hotel on Bolu Mountain, will continue their preparations for the European Championship for 1 week.
A Women’s Basketball National Team Coach Ceyhun Yıldızoğlu stated that their goal is to reveal the traces of the women’s national team that debuted in the European arena and said, “We started our preparations today. We are starting with the new players we want to see our players who are both in the national team, in the league and in form. We also have very valuable players that we did not invite here, but whose skills we are sure of. We started preparations to make the national teams a team that competes on the European stage as before. After working here for 1 week, we will go to Istanbul. After reviewing our offensive and defensive strategies in our training here, we will go to Serbia. Then we will come to Istanbul. After spending 2 days we will make bilateral contact with the Japanese. Our main goal is to reveal the traces of the women’s national team that made its debut in the European arena in the training camp here. We trust the players a lot. We believe that there is a strong national team pool. We have started preparations to re-emerge the national team that will compete at the top of Europe in the old world championships, the Olympics,” he said.
“We have very high expectations”
Stating that there are 6 new players in the camp, Yıldızoğlu said, “Actually, most of our experienced players are not in this camp. Since there is a long time in the qualifying matches, we invited mostly the players who are in form in the league and that we want to see in this camp. We have 6 new players here. very talented children. We have very high expectations. Hopefully, we want to make a new formation by blending this transition period with both experienced and young players in the national team pool.”
“Slovenia and Poland are good competitors”
Speaking about the Slovenia and Poland matches, Yıldızoğlu said, “We played against Slovenia and Poland. We beat Slovenia there. We managed to win here with Poland by 11 points. They are also good competitors. Especially in the match against Slovenia, they had many shortcomings. We think it will be different here in the rematch. But we, as the Turkish national team, definitely want to be in the European Basketball Championship and fight for the podium like before.”
“Our aim is to participate in the European Championship”
A Women’s National Team Manager Yasemin Horasan said, “Our goal is of course to participate in the European Basketball Championship. Two more window matches will be played next November and February. Our goal is to win all the matches there and participate in the European Championship. After that, we want to get into the top 8 and progress step by step,” he said.
