Aaron Rodgers led Green Bay to the Super Bowl in 2010 and helped the Packers win three consecutive NFC North titles; they lost in the NFC Divisional Playoffs last season after advancing to the NFC Championship Game in 2019 and 2020.

Aaron Rodgers has officially signed a contract extension, ensuring the two-time reigning MVP remains with the Green Bay Packers.

“We’re thrilled that we were able to reach an agreement with Aaron that will keep him in Green Bay,” Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said in a statement.

“His performance on the pitch and leadership in our dressing room remain vital in our fight for another Super Bowl title. The agreement also allows us to maintain and improve what we consider to be an already very competitive squad.”

The current two-time NFL MVP could pull out of the deal at the end of each season, but the consequences of the pay cap on the Packers would be dire. For example, his dead cap for 2023 will be $62 million.

His new deal brings in $41 million in 2022, $59 million in 2023, and $49 million in the third and final year of the deal. The 2023 contract is largely built around a $58.3 million option bonus, giving the Packers the option to change the contract and push back future cap caps.

The Packers and Rodgers are cleaning up after a year of bitterness based at least in part on the team’s decision to draft quarterback Jordan Love in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Now the Packers will be looking to strike a long-term deal with All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams, who was signed to franchise last week.

If they don’t reach an agreement by July 15, Adams’ salary for the 2022 season will be just over $20 million.
