LThe Association of Spanish Soccer Players has sent letters this Thursday to the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), the Ministry of Equality and the Higher Sports Council (CSD) to demand equality of economic diets in the absolute Spanish teams and in lower categories.

The AFE recalls that the Equality Law, in its article 29, establishes that “all public sports development programs will incorporate the effective consideration of the principle of real and effective equality between women and men in their design and execution“.

The same law states that “equality of prizes between both sexes will be guaranteed whenever sporting events are organized or entrusted to a third party by a Public Administrationor are financed totally or partially through public funds”. “In the same way, it will be guaranteed that the system of allowances granted, when athletes compete with the corresponding national teams, is equal for men and women”, he adds.

The AFE will also promote this action through FIFPRO (International Federation of Professional Soccer Players) to try to extend this measure to countries that have not yet implemented it. Equally, the union will promote this action through parliamentary initiatives with different political forces, with which the association has been working for a long time. “We understand that the rise of women’s football, which has translated into collective sporting successes for the Spanish women’s team in different categories, forces us to assume this type of commitments and challenges to prevent discrimination against women in the field of sport in the 21st century“, he concludes.
