Baker Mayfield made his debut just two days after being required by the Rams to waive following his release by the Panthers; QB made 22 of 35 passes for 230 yards and won the TD game; “I don’t know if you can write it better than this,” he said after winning the comeback.

Baker Mayfield reflected on the “wild” first 48 hours with the Los Angeles Rams as he ended his first two days with his new team with an incredible 17-16 comeback victory over the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Rams (4-9), the reigning Super Bowl champions who themselves have survived a six-game losing streak and a quarterback injury, demanded a waiver from Mayfield, but head coach Sean McVeigh even acknowledged this ahead of Thursday’s game against the Raiders (5-8) for Mayfield was would be “unprecedented” to play with so little time to prepare for a new attack.

Mayfield came on as a substitute for starting quarterback John Woolford in L.A.’s second shooting streak of the game and went on to pass 22 of 35 for 230 yards, leading in two assists late in the fourth quarter, throwing the game-winning touchdown pass to Wan. Jefferson has only 10 seconds left – and it’s an amazing turnaround.

“I don’t know if you can write it better,” Mayfield said after the game. “Of course we wish we could be a little more stress free, but it’s a damn good story.

“It was pretty hectic. Lots of emotion, to be honest. It’s special.”

Asked if this game is considered one of the best wins of his career, Mayfield replied: “To be honest, it’s too high.

“It was my first rodeo, I will say so.”

The 27-year-old credits McVeigh, along with offensive coordinator Liam Cohen and quarterbacks coach Zach Robinson, in helping him master the offense in such a short amount of time.

McVeigh now represents Mayfield’s seventh other head coach along with several different coordinators in his only fifth season in the league.
