Linebacker Ben Roethlisberger has announced his retirement from the NFL after 18 seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The quarterback, affectionately known as “Big Ben,” won two Super Bowls with the Steelers and made six Pro Bowls in his career.

Roethlisberger ends his career with a 178-91 win-loss ratio (including playoffs) and one draw. He never had a losing season with the Steelers since being selected 11th overall in the 2004 NFL Draft.

Big Ben’s last game in the NFL was a tough 42-21 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in this year’s Wild Card round of the playoffs. Although a week earlier, Pittsburgh fans gave him a rousing send-off after winning his last home game at Heinz Field to secure a playoff berth.

In the retirement video, Roethlisberger said, “I don’t know how to put into words what playing football meant to me and what a blessing it was.

“I know for sure that I gave the game everything I could. I am overwhelmed with gratitude for all she has given me… The journey has been exhilarating, relationship driven and fueled by competitive spirit.

“Nonetheless, it’s time to clear out my locker, hang up my boots, and continue to be all I can be for my wife and kids.”
