The Chicago Bears (3-5) part ways with a 2023 second-round pick in exchange for wide receiver Chase Claypool of the Pittsburgh Steelers (2-6); Claypool, the 49th pick in 2020, has thrown 10 touchdowns as a rookie.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are trading star wide receiver Chase Claypool to the Chicago Bears in exchange for a 2023 second-round pick.

Claypool, 24, has passed 850 receiving yards in each of his first two seasons in the NFL, while in his rookie year in 2020, he also had 10 receiving touchdowns.

The news was released on the Tuesday before the NFL trading deadline at 8pm (UK time). The Bears had previously traded defensive stars Robert Quinn (to the Philadelphia Eagles) and Roquan Smith (to the Baltimore Ravens).

The Steelers are getting the Bears’ initial second-round draft pick as part of the deal, not the one they acquired in their deal with the Ravens on Monday for Smith.

The addition of Claypool gives Chicago defender Justin Fields, who is in his second year, a much-needed offensive weapon. Darnell Mooney currently leads the receiving team with 364 yards this season, with Equanimus St. Brown in second with just 164 yards.

The Bears are 3-5 in the first eight games of the 2022 season while the Steelers are sitting 2-6.
