The quarterback, who hasn’t played since 2016, worked hard during the offseason and threw in front of scouts at halftime in Michigan’s spring game.
Last month, Kaepernick said he was ready to accept the role of backup quarterback, but he had a desire to eventually become the first.
He said I am a sportsman podcast: “I know I need to find my way back. So, yes, if I have to come back as a safety net, that’s fine, but that’s not where I’m staying.
“When I prove that I am a beginner, I want to enter the field as such. I just need this opportunity to get through the door.
“I think that more than anything, it’s passion. For example, you have dreams from your childhood. For example, I’m going to be an NFL player and win the Super Bowl.
“As for me, I have unfinished business on that front. I was at the Super Bowl, we were in the same game. Well, I need to finish this. My mentality is not just to go out and compete.
“No, I want to win the championship. And I know that the path to this can go in different ways, but I believe with all my heart that I will succeed.”
Kaepernick famously took a knee during the national anthem before San Francisco 49ers games in 2016 to protest police brutality and racial injustice.
