Banu Karadağlı, who is the first female athlete to play in professional leagues at the age of 48, became the head of the sports board of the International Down Syndrome Federation.
In her career that started in 1986 when she was just 13 years old and continued for 35 years, Karadağlı played for many clubs in the leagues and received the most valuable female player award in a row in the International Veterans League FIMBA Europe in recent years, and took part in an exemplary social responsibility project. At the same time, Karadağlı, who is also the mother of Okben Ulubay, who still wears the Galatasaray NEF jersey in the ING Basketball Super League, was appointed as the head of the sports board of the International Down Syndrome Federation (UDF), which has representation in 34 countries and 65 cities in Turkey.
Karadağlı stated that he was very excited about his new position and said, “I would like to thank my dear UDF President Muhammed Abdullah Tuncay, who has made me worthy of this task. I was very touched to be involved in these international activities.” Talking about the organizations they held, Karadağlı said, “I took our angel faces to the parquet. Our angel faces appeared in the final match in order to raise awareness at the 3rd Winter Veteran International Basketball Tournament of Nilüfer Municipality in Bursa. They were so happy while they were fighting on the field that the match never happened. After the match ended, our precious children’s medals were awarded by Nilüfer Mayor Turgay Erdem,” he said.

Banu Karadağlı underlined that organizations for children with down syndrome will not be limited to just one event. The successful athlete stated that the programs of the upcoming organizations are ready and added that the events will continue not only in Turkey but all over the world.

Banu Karadağlı took part as an actress in the new music video of the famous singer Ozan Orhon, in addition to her active basketball career at the age of 48 and her new position at UDF. Karadağlı appeared with a basketball in the clip of his close friend Orhon’s song called Arı, which was published on 26 January.
