It is not being an easy season for Joao Félix. Despite starting it at a huge level that led him to be the leader of Atlético, the rojiblanco 7 was lowering his performance, partially weighed down by his ankle problems after the duel against Bayern, to end up being a habitual recourse in the second acts. He lost the title at the hands of a more regular Correa and his last weeks left little glimpses of his enormous talent. Yes, one of them served to start the comeback against Osasuna with his brilliant pass to Renan Lodi.
Finished the season with the title in the pocket Joao undertook the challenge of the Eurocup enrolled in one of the most talented teams in the Old Continent, Portugal. This is the Portuguese’s first great tournament beyond the League of Nations that he conquered and where he began to establish himself as an absolute international.
But the tournament that has just started is another level and it was expected that the rojiblanco 7 would take a leading role together with one of the most powerful attacks that exist at the national team level, with Cristiano Ronaldo as a leader but backed by enormous talents like Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Jota (which also belonged to Atlético) and Bernardo silva.
Outside the call
A brutal fight for a position that Joao Félix paid in the last match of his team. After starting against Spain the coach Fernando Santos didn’t even call him up for the 4-0 win against Israel. It was one of the three discards (José Fonte and Raphael Guerreiro accompanied him), in another demonstration that the Portuguese coach did not like what he saw of Joao against La Roja … and at the Metropolitano.
Waiting for the official start of Portugal (it will be against Hungary on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.) the reality is that Joao does not seem to explode with his team after a complicated course. A good role in the Eurocup would help boost the morale of a talented player who needs to regain the majestic level at the beginning of the course.
