Las Vegas Raiders 14-28 Los Angeles Chargers: Justin Herbert, Austin Ekeler star as Chargers end Raiders win streak

Justin Herbert takes three touchdowns, while Austin Ekeler scores 145 yards from scrum and two points to lead the Los Angeles Chargers past the Las Vegas Raiders, leaving the Arizona Cardinals as the only remaining undefeated NFL team.

Justin Herbert hit three touchdowns, Austin Ekeler threw a record 117 yards and scored twice, and the Los Angeles Chargers knocked the Las Vegas Raiders out of the undefeated ranks with a 28-14 win on Monday night.

Herbert, who completed 25 of 38 assists for 222 yards, made all of his touchdowns in the first half as the Chargers took the 21-0 lead at half-time.

The Raiders scored in their first two possessions in the second half and tied the touchdown, but Ekeler gave Los Angeles some breathing room with an 11-yard run from left-back, Herbert making a key drive game with a 13-yard finish. Jared Cook, fourth and second in midfield.

Chargers freshman coach Brandon Staley was pleased with his team’s offensive balance and adherence to the game plan. Los Angeles had possession of nearly 35 minutes, with three of the four assists having nine or more games.

“We stayed patient, I thought we had a good combination of running and passing. Justin was extremely patient and Austin came to life today, ”he said.

Herbert has achieved a couple of milestones in the victory. He completed his 500th pass in his 19th start, becoming the first quarterback in the Super Bowl era to reach this before his 20th start. He has 10 touchdowns in his first three primetime games, equalizing with Patrick Mahomes and Dan Marino.

Derek Carr was 21 of 34 for 196 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. The Raiders were only able to pull off a 48 yard dash against the Chargers’ last-in-the-league run defense.

“We cannot go out and take that many punches in the first round. I am proud that our guys have shown resilience to get up and continue to fight, but today it was ridiculous, ”said Raiders coach John Gruden. “They attacked us and they chased us all three stages, and we found a way to make it a soccer game and give ourselves a shot, but in this league it’s too hard against good teams.”
