Lauren Bell is in line for her England T20 international debut after being called up to the squad for the series against India, replacing the rested Katherine Brunt.

Brunt, England’s leading IT20 wicket-taker, will miss September’s three-match series as her rest and recovery is prioritised.

That has opened the door for Bell, who made her trial and one-day international debut for England earlier this year, to feature against India after being called up to the 14-man squad.

“After discussions with Katherine, she felt it was in her best interest to rest in both the T20 series and the ODI,” England head coach Lisa Keightley said.

“We fully support that decision with a view to maximizing his mental and physical recovery after what has been an intense year so far.

“That provides an opportunity for Lauren Bell, who was impressive at The Hundred, and with her, Alice Capsey, Freya Kemp and Issy Wong on the team, we’re starting to see a group of exciting young players who have a chance to cement their place. in the England team.

Bell’s inclusion is one of two changes to England’s Commonwealth Games squad, with captain Heather Knight also missing as she continues to recover from a hip injury. Nat Sciver will continue to captain the team in his absence.

The IT20 series and the three-match ODI series against India that follows will be Keightley’s final matches in charge of the England team and the Aussie is aiming to finish her tenure on a high.

“I’m excited to end my time with this team with a really exciting series against India,” said Keightley. “It’s a great team and we’ll have to do our best to win.”
