LeBron James said he still has jerseys sent to him by Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll after both tried to tempt him to join the NFL in 2011.

LeBron James says he “definitely” considered offers to play in the NFL from the Dallas Cowboys and Seattle Seahawks during the 2011 NBA lockout.

Looking back at the footage of James from high school, you need to know that a football career was probably for him, if he wanted to.

“Jerry Jones offered me a contract and Pete Carroll of Seattle did the same during our lockout,” James said. “Definitely made my blood flow again, made me think about playing football again, about being there on Sundays.

“We were able to strike a deal with the NBA and I was back on court in no time, but I definitely thought about it.

“I still have the jerseys that Jerry and Pete Carroll sent me since 2011.”

At six feet nine, James may have had the height and athleticism to be a capable player in difficult times, as a number of college programs, including Ohio State and Notre Dame, recruited him as a high school successor.

“I wanted to be a red zone specialist like Gronk,” he added.

It just so happens that James will win his first NBA championship of that season at the Miami Heat after resolving a league labor dispute.

Since then, he has amassed three more rings with the Heat, the Cleveland Cavaliers and most recently the Lakers in 2020, a 17-time All-Star and third in NBA history with 35,367 points.
