Aaron Donald was initially ruled out of Sunday’s game against the visiting Denver Broncos due to an ankle injury he sustained during the Rams’ 26–10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on November 27, but the setback turned out to be worse than feared at first.

Los Angeles Rams defenseman Aaron Donald is unlikely to play again this season, coach Sean McVeigh said on Friday.

When asked if Donald, 31, would play for the Rams again this season, McVeigh was quick to respond.

“Probably not,” he said.

McVeigh was then asked what was behind this decision.

“I’m just wondering: will he be fully allowed to be Aaron Donald?” McVeigh said. “And if so, talk to him and you will see. But if not, then we will be mistaken in behaving smartly with him. But obviously he’s a guy who definitely deserves the right to talk to him. still cleared and I don’t know if I’ll see that change in the next couple of weeks.”

A seven-time All-Pro, Donald has five sacks and 49 tackles, including 10 for losses, in a season. He also has a forced fumble and fumble recovery.

The three-time Defensive Player of the Year was named Monday at his ninth Pro Bowl.

In addition to Donald, center Brian Allen, defenseman Marquis Copeland, Trevon Howard, linebacker Jake Gervas, wide receiver Ben Skowronek and quarterback John Woolford will be out of Sunday’s game against the Broncos.
