Beckham enjoyed a multi-day visit with the Cowboys earlier this month but left Dallas and also visited the New York Giants and Buffalo Bills without a contract due to concerns about his recovery from an ACL tear he got into Super Bowl LVI in February
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told fans to “stand by” over the possible signing of free agent Odell Beckham Jr., adding that “this thing can break.”
As recently as Tuesday, Jones told a local Dallas radio station that Beckham was “not ready to play right now,” and the team appeared to have stepped back from the receiver chase, securing the signing of the former Indianapolis player. The Colts exit the TY Hilton on Tuesday.
But Jones has since suggested that the Cowboys could still make a deal with the 30-year-old Beckham, although he added that it would need to be done “sooner rather than later.”
“I don’t want to talk about it, but I’m standing by,” Jones said at the last NFL owners’ meeting this week. “This thing might break.
“Great players make great games. The greats play exceptionally. And so I hope we move forward here, where a few great games can make all the difference in the World Cup.”
The Cowboys are 10-3 this year and are currently ranked 5th in the NFC Playoffs with four regular season games.
They could qualify for the playoffs as early as this Sunday with a 5-8 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, and could also claim the NFC East Division title against the current leaders Philadelphia Eagles (12-1) . come on Christmas Eve.
Last year, Beckham agreed to terms with the Rams on November 11 after arranging for him to be fired from the Cleveland Browns. During their run to the Super Bowl title, he had 21 catches for 288 yards and two playoff touchdowns before suffering an ACL injury during the Super Bowl itself.
A three-time professional bowler, Beckham has 531 catches for 7,367 yards and 56 touchdowns in 96 games in his eight-year NFL career in his eight-year NFL career for the Giants (2014–18), Browns (2019–21) and Rams (2021). selected 12th overall in the 2014 draft.
