He will officially start work at the end of February, after his time with Pakistan Super League side Multan Sultans ends, and will report to interim managing director Darren Gough.

“I am extremely honored and excited to have the opportunity to join Yorkshire County Cricket Club as head coach,” said Gibson, who played county cricket for Durham, Glamorgan and Hampshire.

“This is one of the most prestigious roles in English county cricket, and I am very much looking forward to working with this talented group of players to move the club forward.

“I have spoken extensively with Goughy about the direction the club is taking and I am excited to be a part of that future.”

Born in Barbados, the all-rounder Gibson represented the West Indies in two Test matches and 15 one-day internationals during a 17-year playing career, and since retiring has become a highly respected manager around the world. .

Gibson also enjoyed a successful period during his time as part of the England coaching staff, being part of two Ashes series wins. His other international coaching experience includes serving as bowling coach for Bangladesh.

His appointment comes as Yorkshire continues to rebuild from off-field changes that included director of cricket Martyn Moxon and head coach Andrew Gale among staff who departed in December in the wake of the Azeem Rafiq racism investigation.

“We are delighted to welcome Ottis to the Club,” said Yorkshire Chairman Lord Patel. “His credentials as a player and manager speak for themselves and he has had a distinguished career performing at the highest level.

“Ottis’s character and commitment to being involved in the process we are going through at Yorkshire County Cricket Club shone through in our discussions.

“He is someone who I know will foster dialogue and help foster a culture of inclusion at the club, as well as support and develop the world-class talent we have here and push them to the next level.

“I look forward to working with Ottis in the coming weeks and months as we continue our rebuilding of the club.”
