The female athletes of Ukraine representative BC Prometey, who will face Çukurova Basketball Club (ÇBK) in Mersin, made a call for peace to end the war that started in their country.
Ukraine representative BC Prometey will meet Çukurova Basketball Club (ÇBK) Yenişehir Municipality in Mersin at 19.00 in the last 8 rounds of the FIBA Women’s European Cup. The athletes of the Ukrainian representative wanted the war in their country to end.
BC Prometey team captain Olga Dubrovina said, “We try to talk to our families online every day, but there is a problem with the phone lines right now. Everyone is so scared right now. We try to stay as calm as possible. I’m worried about my family and friends staying in Ukraine, I’m so sorry. I want to send a message to the world from here. open your eyes. Children are dying. It doesn’t matter if someone is right, this is a war and it has to end,” she said.
“I AM PROUD OF BEING A UKRAINIAN”
One of the athletes, Tetiana Yurkevichus, said, “We try to communicate with our families both online and over the phone. Being here is both good and bad for us. Because we are far from our families. We are trying to adapt to this situation and stay calm. I am proud to be Ukrainian now. Right now, our people are struggling in our country. I hope these events will end as soon as possible, but we have no choice but to fight. “Unless Russia takes a step back, we will continue to fight,” he said.
“WE HAVE NO CHANCE TO RETURN TO OUR COUNTRY”
Team manager Anastasia Pochozek said:
“I am in the eastern part of Ukraine, I am not a stranger to war. I’ve seen many wars before. I have my brother there. He lives in the basement. He sleeps with the sound of a bomb and wakes up with the sound of a bomb. This is not fair. The situation is getting worse and we have no choice but to pray. Whatever happens, we will continue to fight. We do not have a chance to return to Ukraine at the moment. There are very big, very big constraints at the borders. After the match, we will first return to Bulgaria. We don’t know much about what happened next. Everyone in the team is curious about their families, they want to go back to them. I say no to war.”
Athletes of the Ukrainian team, who said that they were hosted very well in Mersin, thanked everyone for their Turkish hospitality.
