Scotland will kick off their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup campaign against Bangladesh in Muscat on Sunday at 2.30pm after Oman takes on Papua New Guinea at 10.30am, also in Group B; both games are live on Sky Sports Cricket

Scotland captain Kyle Coetzer is confident that his team can build on their T20 World Cup victory against Hong Kong in the previous tournament.

Kyle Coetzer believes Scotland have assembled their best team in a T20 World Cup as they prepare to launch their campaign against Bangladesh on Sunday.

Coetzer’s team is making its fourth appearance in the tournament, although it has yet to progress beyond the first round.

Scotland kicks off their Group B schedule against group favorites in Muscat, live on Sky Sports Cricket starting at 2.30pm, and also takes on Oman and Papua New Guinea, with the top two advancing to the Super 12 stage.

The skipper said: “Your team evolves over the years, especially learning from its environment and the challenges we face going through qualifying tournaments.”

“It really brings your group of players together. Trying to pick the team was an absolute nightmare and I sincerely believe that this is as strong and powerful a team as the one we have selected.”

“We are really diving into the tournament head-on and it is a real challenge, but we have beaten Bangladesh in the past in T20 cricket with a Richie Berrington hundred.

“We understand the dangers in every game and we have to respect that, but at the same time not fear it. We know we have to play well to beat any team in this tournament.”

Coetzer was on the fold when Scotland recorded their first T20 world victory in the last edition of the tournament five years ago, beating Hong Kong by eight wickets in Nagpur.

The 37-year-old added: “That win was a hoax. We’ve done it now and it’s time to move on and think about the next stage, to push the best we can for the Super 12.

“We have lost opportunities at the World Cups when we probably could have passed the line and that is something that we seem to have banished as of late.

“We believe that we can win games and performing under pressure is a key area. We feel confident with what we have and we believe that we are capable of some solid performances.”
