The NFL Network and ESPN reported Wednesday that Tyreke Hill has turned down a deal with the Kansas City Chiefs that would have made him one of the highest paid wide receivers in the league.

The Kansas City Chiefs traded star wide receiver Tyreke Hill to the Miami Dolphins after negotiations over a contract extension with the team stalled.

Hill, a fifth-round pick in 2016, has played a critical role in Kansas City’s success in recent seasons, winning the AFC Championship for four consecutive seasons and winning Super Bowl LIV in 2020.

The 28-year-old is a three-time All-Pro and has made the Pro Bowl every six seasons in the league. He has 479 career receptions for 6,630 yards and 56 touchdowns in 91 games (73 starts) for the Chiefs, plus another 719 yards on the ground, as well as six rushing points. Hill has caught 111 passes for 1,239 yards and nine touchdowns in 2021.

The process for a possible replacement for Hill has already begun in Kansas City, and NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero revealed that Green Bay Packers free agent Marquez Valdez-Scantling is heading to the Chiefs for practice on Wednesday. Pelissero added that no deal was in sight, but a speedster would be a logical option to fill the void.

The Chiefs have already added former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Juju Smith-Schuster to their offseason roster, signing him to a one-year contract worth no more than $10.75 million earlier this week.
