Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio on New York Jets defenseman Zach Wilson: “When you’re so flat, throw your analytics out the window, and your team has no spark or energy because of the guy you have at quarterback.” , you’re in deep trouble. And I think [the Jets] they are in this place

New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson said he doesn’t blame fans for booing after the team’s playoff hopes were severely damaged by a 19-3 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars Thursday night.

Wilson was frequently booed by the home crowd at MetLife Stadium as he completed 9 of 18 pass attempts for only 82 yards plus an interception. The Jets only threw for 66 offensive yards in the first half and only had three first downs, with Wilson eventually replacing journeyman backup Chris Strevler in the third quarter.

“I don’t blame them [for booing]Wilson told reporters after the game. We have passionate fans and they are here to watch us score touchdowns.

“We don’t have first downs, we don’t move the ball and obviously we can’t throw the ball, so of course they will be disappointed.

“I just felt like I didn’t have any rhythm. [I was] just trying to get some confidence on the pitch, something to get us going – a little spark. I couldn’t get anything there.”

Reacting to Wilson’s poor Thursday night performance consistent with the sophomore QB’s struggles throughout his sophomore campaign, Football talkMike Florio urged the Jets to get away from the signalman.

“After last night, I don’t think you’re worried about who your next quarterback is, it’s just not Zach Wilson,” Florio said. “This team is so flat and lifeless when Wilson is there.

“When you are so flat – you throw your analytics out the window – and there is no spark in your team, no energy because of the guy that you have as a quarterback, you are finished. And I think they are at this point.

“I think today it’s not about who will be our quarterback? [the Jets’] well, for his good and for our long-term interests. This is how a functional football operation should work.
