The 2021 NFL regular season draws to a close this weekend, with many more games ahead, playoff spots at stake and a seed yet to be determined; but what kind of storylines should you pay attention to?
Right now, just Indianapolis Colts (9-7) and Los angeles chargers (9-7) from the AFC playoff picture, no playoff spots are guaranteed, but they both currently occupy the last two places at seed 6 and 7 respectively.
Indianapolis win over worst NFL Jacksonville Jaguars (2-14) on Sunday. live on Sky Sports NFL from 18:00 – and they are inside. As simple as that. Incredibly, though, the Colts haven’t won on their last six visits to Jacksonville, including last year’s season opening, which turned out to be the Jags’ only win in 2020.
If the Colts fail, it will open doors for both Pittsburgh Steelers (8-7-1) and Baltimore crows (8-8) who simultaneously meet in Baltimore. The Steelers have a simpler equation: they need to win and just hope for a later meeting between the Chargers and Las Vegas Raiders (9-7) does not end in a draw. Meanwhile, it will take the Chargers loss to win, and the Miami Dolphins loss or a draw at home to the New England Patriots – added to the Colts loss – to progress.

A place in the playoffs is guaranteed to the winner, the loser is sent home. Except for one scenario for the Raiders, who can actually afford to lose and still qualify if Indianapolis loses AND Pittsburgh loses or levels their previous games. However, this is a must-win for the Chargers, who cannot afford such luxury.
The NFC playoff picture isn’t all that confusing. There is only one free space left, and it is between San Francisco 49ers (9-7) and New Orleans Saints (8-8) as to who is claiming it.
The Forty Niners are in a better position, but they have a tough encounter with the Los Angeles Rams (12-4). live on Sky Sports NFL, 21:25 – who still have the title in the NFC West division that they are trying to win. If the 49ers win or equalize this game, they are in the game. But in case of defeat, the Saints will snatch him with a victory over the Atlanta Falcons (7-9).
The Philadelphia Eagles (9-7), although currently below San Francisco and in seventh place in the conference, are confident that they will maintain their place in the playoffs, regardless of the results on Sunday, due to the fact that they best score against NFC rivals.
