Andriy Lunin heard Oviedo’s call in December 2019when the blues were struggling to avoid relegation, and he joined the team to be a key player in permanence… Now, it has been the Real Madrid goalkeeper who knocked on the door of Oviedo in search of help for his compatriots and his former team has not failed him. Oviedo has welcomed three Ukrainian families fleeing the Russian invasion and will take care of their stay in the Principality’s capital.

Last Friday the first family arrived in Oviedo. A 14-year-old who played as a goalkeeper for Metalist Kharkov and was trained by the same coach who had Lunin in his hands in the beginning. Along with him were his mother and his grandmother. It took ten days to cover the route between Ukraine and Asturias.
On Sunday the other two families arrived in Oviedo and Lunin’s own father was in charge of bringing them from Madrid. It is about a mother with her young son, waiting for her two sisters to be able to leave the Ukrainian territory to meet everyone in Oviedo. Two other minors with her mother formed the third family welcomed by the blue team.
From the Oviedo Foundation work is being done to find a larger accommodation so that they can improve their conditions and they also work on all the bureaucratic procedures that are necessary to formalize their asylum.
Lunin’s sports footprint in Oviedo is undeniable. The human has exceeded any expectation and Oviedo’s response has lived up to the situation.
